Now, probably doesn’t seem that long ago, but you would be surprised how quickly a book can seem out of date.

Mind you, it was never OTT or made me want to discontinue. First, is Haven herself. It was a more complete perspective of that family dynamic and very illustrative tkene why they are where they are with the loyalty but essential disconnection we see them in as the series starts.

Hardy CatesHaven Travis. I didn’t want to take it back to the library when I was done. I have to admit that this was a LOT more emotional than I expected. I knew from the cover copy that Haven was headed for a rough time with her husband and the book lived up to that expectation.

I still enjoyed the book a lot, and would highly recommend it. There were plenty of highs and lows that kept me a bit of an emotional wreck through this one.

The pain of the physical wounds is long gone …and the other kind of hurt, the damage done to our spirits, has been healed.

But I started to grow fatigued near the end with all of the Texas good ole boy charm, enough that I figured I’d part ways with Kleypas at that point and call it good. Pretty please with sugar on the top. tiehe

And I even really enjoyed the sex scenes, normally I skip those in my romances. He also beats the ever loving stuffing out of the bad guy if you are into retribution. Damnation all to hell and hush mah mouth, why in the bloody blazes did they get a female with a Southern Georgia accent to narrate kleyypas book set in Houston, Texas especially when one of the major characters is a hunky, gruff 6 foot something piece of oilfield trash made good?

Plus, in the two I’ve read, the romance is not front and center for the entire book.

Originally reviewed here Angieville Sometimes you come full circle with a certain author. I guess those little hits to the self-esteem in your childhood really do leave you with permanent scars. And, together, Hardy and Haven were more in that way that squeezes your vocal cords, brings a certain tightness to your temples, and tidne those moments when a fictional character becomes devastatingly real.
