See the datasheet for how they are connected. Them D has built-in protection diodes. Hook up the circuit and run your motor while keeping your finger on the chip.
Note to ME students: What is the difference even google could not tell me? There is an L and an LD part number. The diodes dztasheet the D are indeed there to protect against inductive spikes.
Quadruple Half-H Drivers
H-bridges can be built from scratch with bi-polar junction transistors BJT or with field effect transistors FETor can be purchased as an integrated unit in a single integrated circuit package such as the L Tutorials on that site are have been known to be wrong. The L is simplest and inexpensive for low current motors, For high current motors, it is less expensive to build your own H-bridge from scratch.
The L comes in a standard pin, dual-in line integrated circuit package. I see too, that the the D can only handle mA compared to 1A. James there are some diodes in the normal are they not the ones that protect against inductive spikes?

The following schematic shows how to connect the L to your motor and the Arduino. Since you’re going to drive a motor you will want to use clamping diodes to avoid inductive spikes from the motor killing the output transistors in the chip.
Note that the names for pin functions may be slightly different than what is shown in the following diagrams. Actually i just want to control dc motor rotation direction, it turn left or right So, the tutorial i found in this link below http: I prefer going to an ICs datasheet: So presumably they serve some other protective purpose? Each motor takes 3 Arduino pins. If you are only using one motor, leave L pins 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 empty. The L is limited to mA, but in reality l293nd only handle much datahseet currents unless you have done some serious heat sinking to keep the case temperature down.
Capacitor Expert Datsheet Day, Enginerd by night. James, yes I see from the data sheet that there are extra diodes in the D, but exactly what protection do they provide?
Sign up using Facebook. They are much cheaper than a new Pick the “D” version because it has built in flyback diodes datashwet minimize inductive voltage spikes.

l293me Post as a guest Name. Assume you have only one motor connected with the enable tied to Arduino Pin 3, and the two direction controls tied to Arduino Pins 4 and 5.
A more recent, improved specification, pin-for-pin compatible chip is recommended for new designs: Home Questions Tags Users Unanswered.
