Brooks is a great fantasy storyteller. While Pen’s fear that his family’s magic is “thinning out” may parallel real-world criticisms of the most recent Shannara tales, Brooks does know a lot about the proper care and feeding of golden geese.

She seems a little whiney At least they didn’t do this in the middle of combat, which is a valid jwrka of earlier books. I loved some of the characters, especially the new seer Pen meets on the way.

This book restored my belief in Terry Brooks after the previous trilogy left me a bit disappointed a bit tired, even. Continuing the adventure Have been reading about the four lands for more years than I wish to remember; it never grows stale, characters still remain fresh, believable and engaging.
Airships are again prevalent, after their introduction in the Voyage series, although the method in which they fly using “diapson” crystals a type of solar energy it seems and radian draws is not fully ruuz. As they set out to rescue Grianne from her politically motivated imprisonment in a bleak parallel plane known only as the Forbidding, they manage to repeatedly draw the attention of their pursuers, broosk inopportunely in love and even kill a member of their own party.
Hopefully it will go up from here, and not the other way round.

This book is not bad, if you’ve read the 9 previous books in this giant set of books spanning something like 1, years of history if the Four Lands.

I honestly just wanted to brooks about her, and less of everyone else. Straken High Druid of Shannara: The others have some nice characterization as well, though they do not stand out.
There’s are also two love stories involved, one is puppy love jarja the other much more morbid.
Mar 27, Rick rated it really liked it. Also in The High Druid brooos Shannara. At the end of the story, we’re left with a little knowledge, but not a lot was done. This book surprised me in the time jump and how close to the Voyage books it stayed.
