A Call to Vengeance. Don’t get me wrong I am not saying anything bad about the authors abilities as a writer. The unfortunate downside to this level of detail is that the reader ends up suffering from information overload.

It is another war story, basically, though has more that is Earth-based this time round than the first book. I liked what he did and how he did it, is what it boils down to. In A Hymn Before Battle, resourceful Captain Michael O’Neal almost single-handedly defeated the vicious centaurlike Posleen in battle, but with Earth hanging in the balance in this book, it will take more than one man to turn the tide.
They have the technology to win.

The vessels had plenty of weaponry that could have been used against the alien invaders when the waves started their approach. Other books in the series. Unfortunately there is a lot of jumping around to other perspectives during combat.
This three-dimensionality is welcome, and few authors pull it off so well. Other military personnel, including military leaders, combat engineers, and local space defense forces, are also in the midst of preparations for the imminent invasion. Death Comes But Once. The later combat scenes are often very good but constantly challenged by a disjointed perspective. The protagonist gives an inspirational speech to some trainnees at one point. I am so glad I decided to revisit it. And he continued on getting worse in this one to the point I had to stop reading.
As it was, I still enjoyed reading the battle sequences once they started up in the book. While many loose ends are tied up, other fundamental questions about the various aliens, which were only hinted at in the earlier books, are now dredged up and given new focus.
Will the line hold for the defenders to marshal their forces? In all I think I might have made a good decision not to ditch this series after the first book. And–other than a kind of reveling in the warrior ethos–there’s just no room for any kind of philosophical consideration at all. Among other wasted words, there was way too much time and emphasis on the trip to FL. He approached Gust Front like he was an accomplished author. Open Preview See a Problem? No two scenes are exactly the same, or even remotely the same. When the Posleen begin an invasion of Earth, however, the humans ignore the fact that the invaders outnumber them and wage an unorthodox and surprising form of warfare.
Meanwhile, combat engineers prepare Shockoe Bottom in Richmond, VA, as a deathtrap, luring the Posleen forces into a kill-zone in the city.
Live Free or Die. The second novel covers the assault on Earth. Thanks to alien mohn and sheer guts, the Terrans on two worlds fought the Posleen to a standstill.
