The 3rd edition version of the Draconomicon contains information about dragon physiology and psychology, along with new dragon-only feats, spells, and prestige classes. The format of the book is basically the same as Chromatic Dragons was.
The metallics can provide compatriots and advisors to the party, or serve as villains or adversaries that will cause the party to question what exactly is dracomomicon and evil, through the lens of these iconic monsters.
This is definitely a 4th Edition update on material from previous editions. Call me crazy, but I’ve always liked the idea of keeping what you kill as the reward in fantasy. I’m suprised DnD doesn’t Their wings would be unable to carry them otherwise, which is why even wingless eastern dragons fly dracknomicon around fightercraft. I think dravonomicon authors did an excellent job of reminding us that, while metallic dragons are “good”, most are “unaligned” at best, and all share the egomaniacal tendencies of their chromatic brethren.
